Our History

The POWERS Foundation | Alex Haddock with Group of Students

In 2009, Alex Haddock proposed a Saturday School program for his first-grade students and their families with the intention of focusing on both academics and character. Convinced of his idea’s potential, Alex spent the next two years studying successful public schools to better inform his developing plan for The POWERS Foundation. In 2011, the organization officially got its start with 20 families in a Title I public school in Prince George’s County.

The POWERS Foundation has since expanded its team and hosted its first fundraiser. Currently, POWERS is working with schools and families in Charlottesville, VA and Baltimore, MD and hopes to expand to additional regions and sites in the near future.

The POWERS Foundation expands high-quality educational access for students in Title I public schools and provides families with resources and training to prepare their children for college and career success.
